Sarah Abercrombie is a contemporary British artist who combines traditional printmaking techniques. Her work explores a mediative approach and observes quiet landscapes.
About
Sarah Abercrombie is an artist printmaker living and working in Suffolk, UK. She studied Fine Art at Central Saint Martins in London and Art Pedagogy and Contemporary Practice at Goldsmiths University in London. Following a career as an artist teacher, Abercrombie has returned to her creative and historical roots as an artist printmaker in the East of England. Drawing and printmaking is the way she observes the landscape around her and makes sense of the world. From initial marks on paper Abercrombie creates prints that explore a meditative approach to contemporary printmaking. Ink, with its characteristics of immediacy, opacity and translucency provides her with a visual language that falls between vibrancy and subtlety, presence and absence. Abercrombie is a committee member for Suffolk Open Studios and guest artist at Artworks Annual Exhibition at the historic Blackthorpe Barn in the heart of rural Suffolk.
Abercrombie uses relief woodblock, intaglio collagraph and planographic photolithography printmaking processes from drawings and within circles to create print landscapes that observe and notice the dialogue between the land and sky, the ephemeral changes of shifting light and the movement of elements throughout days and seasons. She’s looking for balance and grounding in the complexity of our ever-changing world, absorbing feelings of calmness and clarity. Using colour and mark making she likes to recall quiet moments and intangible aspects of being through layers of ink.
