Drawing and printmaking is the way I observe the landscape around me and make sense of the world. From initial marks on paper I create original prints that explore a mindful and meditative approach to contemporary printmaking.
About
Sarah Abercrombie is an artist printmaker living and working in Suffolk, UK. She studied Fine Art at Central Saint Martins in London and Art Pedagogy and Contemporary Practice at Goldsmiths University in London. Following a career as an artist teacher, Abercrombie returned to her creative and historical roots as an artist printmaker in the East of England. Drawing and printmaking is the way she observes the landscape around her and makes sense of the world. From initial marks on paper, Abercrombie creates original prints utilising relief printmaking with some intaglio and planographic processes focusing on connecting themes of mindfulness and meditation through contemporary printing. Ink, with its characteristics of immediacy, opacity and translucency provides her with a visual language that falls between vibrancy and subtlety, presence and absence. Abercrombie’s work has been exhibited in the UK and predominantly in The East of England. She is a member of Suffolk Open Studios and Gainsborough House Print Workshop.
For me, observing the landscape is noticing the dialogue between the land and sky, the ephemeral changes of shifting light and the movement of elements throughout days and seasons. I’m looking for balance and grounding in the complexity of our ever-changing world, absorbing feelings of calmness and clarity. Using colour and mark making I like to recall these quiet moments and intangible aspects of experience through printmaking and layers of ink.
